Course Description
The aerospace industry has unique requirements for quality management, which is why many companies that deliver products and services within aviation, space, and defense work to earn AS9100 certification. This standard sets quality management system requirements with the challenges of the aerospace industry in mind. AS9100D includes all the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 along with approximately 105 additional requirements specific to the Aviation, Space and Defense industry. 

AS9100D Internal Auditing training is designed to provide a working understanding of a quality management system based on the requirements of AS9100D. It prepares internal auditors to perform effective process audits and helps managers and supervisors take full advantage of the internal audit process. Students will gain an understanding of the requirements of AS9100D and its interrelationship with other elements of the ISO family of standards. This course meets the training portion of the requirements for certification of individual internal auditors. Training focuses on the process approach and ensures that you maximize the benefits that implementing a quality standard can bring.

Day 1 of this AS9100D Internal Auditing training course is a comprehensive review of the theory and practice of the AS9100:2016 Standard and Internal Auditing. This day includes:

Introduction and Welcome

  • The Challenge for Top Management
  • ISO 9001:2015 changes incorporated into AS9100:2016
  • Seven Quality Management Principles
  • The AS9100:2016 Standard Explained
  • Family of Standards
  • Detailed review of all elements of AS9100:2016 standard
  • Attendees will also gain an understanding of Customer Oriented Processes (COPs), as well as the customer-specific requirements defined by the AS9100:2016 Standard.

Day 2 of this course is designed to enhance your understanding of process-based, metric-driven auditing techniques. This day includes:

Day 3 (1/2 day) includes:

  • Practice Audit

This course is appropriate for anyone responsible for managing or conducting internal audits to the AS9100 standard, as well as for those overseeing program implementation, system maintenance, and/or continuous improvement of a quality management system based on the requirements of AS9100.

Day 1
Course Introductions and Objectives
Lecture: Overview, Auditing and the Standard Requirements
Lecture: Discuss process-approach and metrics-driven audits
Lecture: Quality Management System – Principles
Exercise 1: Construct a process map (inputs, outputs, measures) and assign AS 9100D requirements)
Lecture: Discuss the requirements/principles of AS9100D and how to integrate in a successful audit program
Lecture: Review the AS9100D requirements and implications to your company

Day 2
Review of Day One Activities
Lecture:  The Audit Process (planning, performing and reporting an audit)
Lecture: Preparing/Planning the audit – key criteria of a process audit
Exercise 3: Developing an Audit Plan
Lecture: Conducting a process-based and metrics-driven audit
Exercise 4: Auditing the Organization Case Study Scenarios
Lecture:  Audit report – key elements and documentation requirements
Lecture: Audit Nonconformance
Exercise 5:  Auditing the Evidence Sample Documents and Records
Exercise 6:  Start preparation of internal mock audit

Day 3 (1/2 day)
Completing the Audit Report
Corrective Action and Close Out (using CARs)
Verification and Close Out
Mock Audit

The course also looks at effective auditing techniques, interviewing skills, communication skills, and teamwork concepts. Internal auditing metrics are also discussed. Interactive workshops, simulated audits, tutorials and case studies are practiced with the group to further convey the theory of the auditing process.
