Jim August is a quality professional with over thirty years of experience in commercial, industrial, and automotive manufacturing, managing business quality and technical improvement programs in single- and multi-plant environments. During that time he has effectively integrated Quality Management Systems with Business Management Systems to create an effective and efficient BQMS based on the Deming cycle.
A disciplined planner, problem solver and change implementer himself, Jim guides teams to think strategically, systematically, and statistically to help them develop workable solutions to everyday issues. As a strong advocate of supplementing OTJ training with education to improve performance, he has led in-house courses on corrective action, problem solving, ISO 9001 integration, supervision, internal auditing and supplier management.
Jim has taught Quality Management courses at the college/university level. He was a workshop leader and trainer for ASQ CMQ/OE and CQE certification courses. He was active in Quality New Jersey between 1991 and 2007 where he served as Senior Examiner, Team Leader, and trainer for the QNJ Governor’s Award for Performance Excellence (Baldrige framework) process.
Jim holds a Bachelor of Engineering and a Masters in Materials Science from SUNY Stony Brook. He is a senior member of ASQ and has been an ASQ Certified Quality Auditor since 1993 and a Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence since 2008.
